Kids raise $50,000 for charity at local event

by Chris 5. June 2012 14:06

Various elementary and middle school students through Central Ohio made a gallant effort Sunday morning in Genoa Park in Columbus in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record for longest penny chain.

"We wanted to do something to show the community what Columbus is capable of and what these kids are capable of,” See Kids Dream Executive Director Bill Grindle told a local reporter. “So this event is really about showing off what these kids have done.”

And although the kids finished a little short in their attempt to break the record, they raised about $50,000 to support local charitable causes.

Representatives from NeedNexus were excited to volunteer at the event, which featured over 1,500 students from 47 Central Ohio schools who placed an estimated 6 million pennies in a trail at the park.

You can see a video from the event here.

Understanding the value of time

by Chris 29. May 2012 09:34

Evolutionist Charles Darwin once said, “A man who dares to waste one hour of life has not discovered the value of life.”

Heady words, no doubt, yet their message are succinct and simple. No moment in life can recur, be exactly replicated, or frozen. With time being so limited, realities forever bemoaned by a great majority of people, why are we not more conscious about saving it?

We are all human, so it’s easy to relate to someone complaining there isn’t enough time in the day to get everything accomplished. You yourself might have let out your time management frustration to someone recently. You may have done this even today.

So, the $64 Million Dollar Question is what we can do to make ourselves more productive? How can we manage our time more wisely?

Since one person can really do only so much in a day (yes, it’s a bitter pill to swallow, but it’s true!) letting someone else do the jobs you don’t have time for or are not interested in, is a great way to boost your productivity.

For example, if you find mowing your lawn to be tedious, how about hiring a lawn care company?

Wouldn’t you enjoy relaxing on your family room couch, sipping a cool drink as you watch the Summer Olympics, while someone else attends to your yard?

Or maybe you can make some business calls to earn some green while someone else attends to your greens outside.  Isn’t that a better use of your time? If you have a plumbing leak in your house, are you going to try to figure it out via trial and error (needless to say, creating a big dirty mess in every step of the process) or will you get someone, who knows his stuff, to fix it quickly and professionally? No matter how big of an ego you have, at some point in your life you have to come to the realization that you can’t do everything on your own, it saves you time and money to hire professionals to do certain types of work.

The professionals at NeedNexus understand how valuable your time is, they have an easy solution for you. When you need something done or have a project that you need to hire someone for, post your Need on NeedNexus.com and you will get Quotes from qualified Service Providers. You will avoid the hassle of having to call 20 different companies, play phone tag, compile and compare the quotes, etc.

Once you post your Need, you will be notified via Email as Bids/Quotes are submitted. You may pick any Bid at any time or might want to wait for the listing period to expire to make sure you have a complete list of Quotes before you make a decision. You may also browse their list of Providers and contact them if you want, but the most time and money saving way is to let the Providers submit Bids for your project. That way, instead of you going to the Providers, they are coming to you.

Why don’t you check out www.neednexus.com and see for yourself? While it won’t help you get any additional hours in a day, it sure will help you make the most of every moment you’ve got.

Are the Yellow Pages dead?

by Chris 25. May 2012 04:26

Does the slogan “Let your fingers do the walking” sound familiar?

It probably does, and that’s because it was the promotional slogan for the Yellow Pages, that dinosaur of advertising that was once ubiquitous in every American home. But in today’s technologically advanced world of smartphones and Internet marketing, do you find yourself letting your fingers do the walking or are they tapping on a keyboard as you search for a qualified plumber to fix that leaky faucet or a roofer to repair your home’s shingles?

So, the question begs, are the Yellow Pages a dying breed? If so, are they being supplanted by companies advertising their services on the World Wide Web?

At the Summit for Directional Media Strategies, held in Denver in September, 2011, this very topic received a great deal of attention. One outcome of the event was an article about small business advertising penned by Stephanie Hobbs, an award-winning print and online Yellow Pages executive with extensive domestic and international experience.  Among its findings is that American consumers do, in fact, continue to let their fingers do the walking.

In a 2010 study conducted by the Local Search Association, 84 percent of consumers surveyed reported using the Yellow Pages at least once in the past year, while 62 percent turned the pages in the month prior to the survey. Despite these numbers, however, Internet marketing revenue continues to increase at staggering rates.

But no matter whether a consumer finds their plumber from the Internet or the Yellow Pages, it’s likely they still won’t know much about the service provider, other than what the company reveals on its Web site. And when was the last time you read something negative about a business on its own site?

Did you know researching and even hiring service providers through NeedNexus costs you nothing? For the same price you pay to let your fingers walk or tap, why not let the professionals at NeedNexus help you locate the right service professional for your personalized needs.

The process is simple: you tell us what type of service you’re looking for and we post your Need or Project on our site.

Of course, your personal information is protected, so no one but NeedNexus knows who you are. Professionals with proven track records of successful service then bid to complete your job.

Isn’t it nice to not have to call anybody, play phone tag or try to compile all the Bids yourself ?

With NeedNexus, all you do is post your Need and let Service Providers come to you instead of you reaching out to them. Since you get competitive Bids, you save both Time and Money.

How to get your dream project done

by Chris 1. April 2012 16:20

Have a dream project?

For Ohio University senior Kevin Lenahan, his dream was to install a hot tub inside his dorm room so he can relax his muscles after running.

But as a WEWS Channel 5 story indicates, the school recently told him he needed to remove the item from his room, indicating safety concerns.

But Lenanhan thinks the school is unfair with their decision

“There is no place in the housing handbook that said my hot tub was not allowed,” he told a reporter. “My hot tub heater is fundamentally the same as a

coffee maker.”

Can Lenahan win his battle without getting into more “hot water?”

Only time will tell.

Where do you turn for your dream project?

Calling a lot of providers and trying to find a great deal can be aggravating.

We have a solution.

Post your project for free (hyperlink post a need page) on our web site and we’ll find providers who will bid on your project.

After we collect the bids, simply pick which bid you like the best. Your only cost is the cost of the project. We have no membership fees.

And we find quality providers. Schools can rest easy. Our providers will advise you on how best to do your project.

For every need, you should try NeedNexus.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Picture from Lenahan via the NewsChannel 5 web site).
